Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to California.

Habitat: Open, dry foothills.

Description:
General:

Sparsely hairy annual from a taproot, the simple to many-branched stem 1.5-7 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, entire, somewhat short-hairy, oblong to lance-elliptic, up to 12 cm. long and 2 cm. wide.

Flowers:

Inflorescence a coiled false-raceme; sepals 5, free, 5-10 mm. long; corolla regular, 5-lobed, light yellow, 4-7 mm. long, the limb 1-3 mm. wide; stamens 5.

Fruits:

Fruit of 4 nutlets, 2-3.5 mm. long, gray to black.
